Today is Vegan Pizza Day! This “holiday” was started in 2011 by vegan blogger Quarrygirl and Dan Reed of Chicago Vegan Foods. This is one food related holiday we can really get behind, and we have five recipes from our vegan cookbooks to help you celebrate!
Spinach Artichoke Pizza from Everyday Vegan Eats by Zsu Dever – This incredible pie tastes just like spinach-artchoke dip spread over a pizza. With the added optional vegan cheese, it is extra ooey and gooey – just like pizza should be!
Italian “Sausage” Pizza from from Practically Raw by Amber Shea Crawley – With summer in full swing, it might be too hot to turn on the oven in some areas of the country, but that doesn’t mean you need to go pizza-less. This raw pizza comes together quickly and you’ll be able to keep your cool while making it.
Chicago Deep-Dish Style Pizza from American Vegan Kitchen by Tamasin Noyes – The story goes that deep-dish pizza was invented in the early 1940s at Pizzeria Uno in Chicago. It caught on quickly and is still offered in pizza shops today. For Chicago pizza, the cheese is placed directly on the crust, with the sauce and toppings on top of the cheese. This works well with vegan cheeses that can sometimes be slow to melt.
Summer Fruit Pizza from Practically Raw Desserts by Amber Shea Crawley – Who says pizza is just for dinner? On this colorful dessert pie, raspberry sauce mimics marinara and crushed macadamia nuts make perfect “cheese” sprinkles.
Pizza Kale Chips from Practically Raw by Amber Shea Crawley – These kale chips aren’t exactly pizza pie, but their pizza flavor make them the perfect snack food for Vegan Pizza Day. If you’re still unsure about the current kale chip trend, these chips will surely win you over with their awesome taste and addictive crunch.
