This week, Vegan Heritage Press is sponsoring a giveaway of our power-outage, emergency pantry cookbook: Vegan Unplugged: A Pantry Cuisine Cookbook and Survival Guide by Jon Robertson (with recipes by Robin Robertson). The response has been so good to our 2-for-1 special on this book (ordered through the VHP website), that we’ve decided to spread the wealth—the wealth of preparedness knowledge and 80 excellent, quick-and-easy recipes contained in this book — by giving away 2 copies of the book to 1 lucky winner.
To enter, all you need to do is leave a comment at the end of this post saying who you would give your extra free copy to — someone you think could use either quick and easy recipes like the Curry in a Hurry pictured above (ready in less than 15 minutes using pantry ingredients!) or an emergency preparedness guide (or both!): maybe it’s your aunt who lives in Florida, or a cousin in Vermont, or a friend in college who needs easy (and cheap) pantry recipes.
To double your chances of winning, post a link to this giveaway on your Facebook and Twitter pages. To triple your chances, simply “Like” Vegan Heritage Press on Facebook. Better hurry — this giveaway ends on Friday at midnight. The winner will be announced right here on Saturday morning, September 10.
Thanks for participating in this giveaway and double thanks for helping spread the word about Vegan Unplugged!
I would give the extra cookbook to my mom, who is always trying to go vegan for health but always says recipes are too complicated.
I’d give the extra copy to my sister who lives very rustically at her Buddhist temple.
I would give a copy to my mom, who I am currently in the process of creating a vegan meal plan for. She has heart health issues (heart attack a 1 and 1/2 years ago and a near-miss last week). She needs to be able to make quick meals for herself.

I would give a copy to my cousin who only has one vegan cookbook – my copy of Vegan with a Vengeance, which she borrowed ages ago and never returned! Now she has her eye on 1000 Vegan Recipes, but I won’t let it leave my house, so she copies recipes when she visits. LOL
I would give my second copy to my friend Sandra who has had a terrible time over the years with problems with her water – pipes bursting, low pressure for months, etc – and each time it happens is always after a way to feed everyone without issues. I know the pipes may never be a problem again, but just in case….
I would give it to a friend that I go to college with that is taking the step from lacto-ovo to vegan. I love that I’ve gotten the chance to influence her to move to an even better lifestyle 🙂
I would give the cookbook to my daughter. She is vegan and would love some quick and easy ideas. My google account is not working for some reason so my email is keden66@aol.com.
I would give a copy to the Family Support Center at Charleston Air Force Base to include in their Hurricane Readiness section.

I would give the extra copy to one of my coworkers. I teach a class once a year at work about good health, nutrition and vegan eating. I always have a drawing for a vegan cookbook (the last one I gave away was Vegan on the Cheap). Everyone puts their name into a hat, I draw one and that person is the lucky winner. This would be a great giveaway!
I would give my extra copy to my daughter. She went vegan about one year ago and she is so dedicated for herself and her children. She has 2 children who she feeds mostly vegan also. Thanks!
Second copy? Ummm…..to my 43 year old son and who has just discovered the girth of his middle. LOL!
Both my son and daughter-in-law tend to choose convenience foods because of time and the misunderstanding that home-made healthy food is an effort. Vegan food is tasty and can be simply prepared and I’m sure this book would set them on their path to a longer life.
I would give a copy to my Mom. Even though she is not vegan, she loves cooking vegan food, which is fine by me! She spends so much time in the kitchen preparing elabortae meals when I visit, it would be nice to have a cookbook for her with quick & easy recipes so we could spend our time visiting with each other.
i would also give a copy to my mom. she’s not vegan, but she’s had cancer before, and has read the benefits of a vegan diet. not to mention, i’d want her to be able to make healthful stuff in case of an emergency. also, maybe having easy, simple vegan recipes might help her throw in more vegan meals from time to time even in non-emergencies.
i like VHP on FB (my initials are CLM) 🙂

I am a Vegetarian but would LOVE to have a VEGAN cookbook to help me more my family and I in that direction. I would give the extra copy to my most awesome neighbor who too is Vegetarian but also trying to move in the direction of becoming a VEGAN. My neighbor is the working married mother of 2 teenage girls and I am the volunteering married mother of 4 boys. Let me say it is extremely challenging to VEGANIZE my family but still trying.
I would give the extra copy to my good friends in NC. They are a married young couple who were instrumental in my going vegan. Not to mention they are just awesome friends who always help out others.
I’d give a copy to each of my two daughters. Without their love and support I never would’ve made the transition to veganism. Four years now and no looking back!
I’d give it to my mom, who claims that she doesn’t know how to cook vegan but just needs a recipe to follow. She and my dad are actually mostly vegetarian, and this would give her more ideas, especially for when I visit.
This is weird my friend and I just decided to go vegan, these books would be a great guide and help us learn what it is to be a true vegan.
I would give the extra copy to my Dad,who I try and convince to try more vegan recipes!:)
veganvigilante_bethechange@yahoo.com
I’d give my extra copy to a vegan friend or my wife’s cousin, who is also vegan and lives in another city. Would love to win, thanks for holding the contest!
Ooh I’m not sure…my first response would be to give it to my mom and dad who just turned vegan this year. However, my mom’s an excellance from scratch cook so although she may love to have this on hand, I think I know someone else who could use it more…my mother-in-law. She’s been interested in eating healthier and even eating vegan but she never ever has time to cook a healthy meal for herself. This sounds like the perfect book for her. She loves to cook from her pantry since it’s quick and easy…I think this would encourage her to actually jump start the diet she’s always wanted to go on to lead a healthier lifestyle.
Posted on FB and Twitter as @vegfoodtracker! Thanks for the opportunity!
I’d give a copy to a my friend who is vegan — and a great cook — then share our completed recipes.
I would give a copy to my 17-year-old vegan niece who is in her second year of college. She and her friends routinely need to whip up some healthy, cruelty-free fare in a hurry, on a budget, and often without the benefit of the dorm stove.
I would give my copy to my sister because I love her and we share a passion for vegan cooking.
I would eagerly give the extra copy (or my copy if there were only one being given out) to a co-worker of my husband’s. He is in the very beginning stages of being a vegan, about 14 days now. He is doing excellent. What a better way to help him get a great start by giving him an awesome book! Thank you for all you do 😉
I would give my extra copy to my father who is transitioning into a vegan lifestyl 🙂
I’d love to give a copy to my sister who lives in an area with frequent power outages!
My mom is working to go vegan at age 60. This would be a great resource for both of us! 🙂

I would give the extra copy to my best friend and sister Dominique 😉
I would give my extra to my coworker, who is very concerned about animal welfare, but sometimes isn’t sure what to eat.
I’d give it to my mom because she is ALWAYS asking me for good vegan recipes, and I want her to go veg!
I would give my extra copy to my daughter-in-law who says she is going to stop fixing non vegan food. i guess that means they are going vegan:)
I would give it to my folks!
I’d share my extra copy to my best friend who desperately needs to lower her cholesterol and eat healthier so we can be friends for years to come!!
My extra copy would go to my dear friend, Stefanie, who hates to cook & needs to eat much healthier to get her diabetes & cholesterol under control. She would LOVE this book!
I am not anonymous, but I cannot get signed in for some reason….Karyn H

My extra copy would go to my parents. They live in Louisiana and know a thing or two about bad weather and power outages. : )
I’d give the extra copy to my brother, who is starting to discover that food can be healing AND taste good, to help him on his journey of discovery.

I also liked posted the giveaway link on fb.
And just tweeted the link too.
I would share a copy with my best friend Pam, who just moved to South Carolina and will be facing hurricanes and winter storms. I am sure she will find your book helpful and perhaps lifesaving! Thanks for writing a great book for emergencies that is for vegans! She will love it!
I would give the extra copy to my friend Mark, to try to give him a little more insight into vegan eating! What an awesome idea, thanks for writhing this book!
I’d give the cookbook to my in-laws who were hit by Hurricane Irene last month.
They live in a rural area right outside of Richmond, VA, and until this past weekend, they had been without electricity (due to Hurricane Irene). They were also hit by Hurricane Isabel in 2003.
I also tweeted the link! @VeganTriangle
I would love to give the extra copy to my sister. Trying to get her to take more charge of her life and eat more healthy for herself and her family. I want to have her around for a very long time.
I would send the extra copy to a friend of mine. She is just dipping her toe into vegetarianism/veganism and it always helps to get started when you have a guide.
Peace & veggies!
@secretbea
I purchased Vegan Unplugged about 6 months ago and followed the recommendations to prepare for an emergency. Then hurricane Irene hit our area. I was without power for 7 days, 4 hours…but I was prepared because of this book! I have told everyone about how helpful this book is and how good the recipes are! If I win 2 copies I will give one each to my two grown children and their families!
I would love to have a copy of this book. I live in Florida and the threat of hurricanes and power loss is very real reality. The second copy I think I’d have my own give away and use Random.org to pick a lucky winner from my vegan blog.
I would give a copy to my local library so many people will have a chance to learn about vegan food and cooking in emergency situations in the future since we live in a place with tornadoes, hurricanes, floods, and even snow storms in the winter.
MICHELLE WENTLING says: Love this book, so does my omnivore hubby! I would keep one in my car for grocery shopping ease, and give one to my good friend for those tornado threat times! (We live in tornado alley!)
I would give the extra copy to my mom. After watching Forks over Knives this morning, I would like to help save her life.
I tweeted and shared the giveaway via Facebook @CzechVegan
I like you on Facebook
I would give the extra copy to my mom. She’s been very patient with my veganism for the past 12 years (even when I was a teenager!) and has shown inklings herself of wanting to cut down on animal products. She’s 68 so making any sort of behavior change would be major 🙂
I would give a copy to one of my going-vegan pen pals! (I have several, and run a vegan pen pal project). I am always receiving letters and emails from people who would love to switch to a vegan diet, but are having trouble making easy, from the pantry recipes, so this would be perfect!

I ‘like’ VHP on Facebook!

I’d give my second copy to the local women’s shelter so anybody wanting to make vegan food out of their pantry could.
phoenixkitty2011[at]hotmail.com
I think I’d donate it to my local library!
I would give a copy to my mom who would really benefit from this book! thanks so much for the giveaway!
I’d give my extra copy to my old roomate! She struggles alot with staying vegan and time seems to be the biggest issue! She just needs a little instruction on where vegan, quick, and yummy combine!
I would definitely give my extra copy to my mother-in-law. She is yet to be totally convinced that a vegan diet is the way to go, but she is all about being prepared and saving time in the kitchen!
I’d give it to my mom who’s looking for simpler meals to cook now. It’ll be fun to cook the same recipe with her and share notes on them over the phone. Thanks for the giveaway!
thank you for hosting such a wonderful giveaway!
i would give my extra copy to my daughter who is trying to “ease” her growing family into veganism!
I would give this copy to my college-age son. He isn’t likely to cook anything with exotic ingredients or complicated procedures, so I have been thinking that this book is right up his alley!
i’d give it to my sister who wants to learn to cook
I’d give it to a vegetarian-working-on-going-vegan friend whose power went out on a regular basis all summer.
Fun giveaway! I’d give a copy to my mom who just moved out to the country and can definitely use healthy pantry-friendly recipes. Thanks!
I would give the extra copy to my little sister, who’s almost vegetarian and she’s often away camping, so she could probably use the book there.
I’ve liked you on Facebook! 🙂 I’d give the extra copy to friends Jessie and Tim who are about to have a baby. They are vegan and could use some quick meals once the baby gets here!
I would give it to my friend Tim who is trying so hard to explore veganism. He’d love the inspiration! Cheers!
I would give the extra copy away via a give-away to a lucky winner on my blog 🙂

Tweeted, and “liked” on FB. And I would give the copy to my vegan friend who loves to cook as much as I do!
I think I’d give the extra copy to my parents in Vermont….there was a ton of flooding up there and a lot of power outages. I know what it’s like, living in New Orleans….
I tweeted (@TanyaTheViolist) and I put it up on my FB page (Eating Kale)
I would give the extra copy to my sister. We are both recent vegans with large families. We both strongly believe being having an ample food storage able to live off what is in our pantries in case of natural disasters or life…. Thanks for such a great site!
I am Jan’s sister and I would give the extra copy to her! We are supporting each other in this amazing lifestyle change. Having food storage is a priority for us and our families. My sister is expecting her 4th child and I also have small children at home….we need HELP and recipes!!
