Four Ways to Enjoy AvocadosThere’s good news and bad news for avocado lovers.

The good news is that a new study published in the Journal of the American Heart Association shows that eating an avocado a day can reduce bad cholesterol in overweight and obese people. Avocados usually get a bad wrap for their high fat content, but they are actually rich in monounsaturated fat, which is what gives them the ability to lower LDL cholesterol. Their high fiber content is also believed to be a factor in their cholesterol lower abilities. Avocados have other health benefits, such as high potassium, anti-imflammatory properties, and powerful antioxidants. All of these benefits come with a price though – the average avocado contains 230 calories, so be sure your diet also contains plenty of  low-calorie fruits and vegetables.

The bad news is that due to the recent drought in California, we may be facing an avocado shortage in the not too distant future. 95% of the countries avocados come from California, and without the proper amount of water, they just won’t grow. Enjoy them now, while you can!
